Another excellent Council meeting tonight. We had a great turn out from the public at the hearing for re-zoning at 105 Montgomery/2 Coverdale Properties (Circle K) for the addition of a new restaurant location. Many concerns heard about litter, noise and traffic. Council has asked that the P.A.C and staff look into some of these issues. First reading of the re-zoning passed and options will be looked for the next reading of the by-law. I am hoping that in our second reading, we'll be able to see some of these issues addressed. We also heard from Advisory Committee on Disabilities on the removal of walkers from Wheels on Wheels service. The recommendation from the committee was that they be removed, though if someone using a walker really needed the service, they would still consider allowing them access to the service. The recommendations we accepted in a 4-2 vote of Council. Council also gave direction to Codiac Transpo to investigate new route options, time things out and do a cost analysis to enhance service for residents. We also had a great presentation from David Hawkins of XYZ strategies on a review they did with the Riverview Arts Center. There will be some exciting changes likely to come our way from them as well. Something to consider is what impact do you feels the "arts" has on our community? I think we underestimate the role arts and culture play in building our identity! Our next Council meeting is scheduled for August 12!! If you have any questions or thoughts on these issues, feel free to post, but again, let's keep it respectful!! I look forward to your feedback!
