Fire Service Medal Presentation
Mayor Seamans presented Deputy Fire Chief Robin True with the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal which honours members of a Canadian Fire Service for completing 20 years of service. Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.
Mayor Seamans also presented Volunteer Lieutenant Greg Trites with a The New Brunswick Fire Service Long Service Medal recognizing his 25 years of service. The provincial medal is awarded to fire service members who have been involved in firefighting, fire prevention and/or fire investigation for 25 years or more.
Proposal for New Codiac Transpo Routes
Chief Administrative Officer Colin Smith offered Council an overview of staff recommendations following a presentation by Codiac Transpo in February, 2015. He advised that public consultations are necessary to assess the community's transit needs and determine if the new routes proposed by Codiac Transpo will be welcomed by transit users. The Committee of the Whole made a motion to recommend that Council proceed with consultation sessions in 2015. The proposed new routes will be available on the town website when Council ratifies the decision at the next Regular Council Meeting on June 9.
Citizen Satisfaction Survey Results
Director of Economic Development Shane Thomson presented the results of the Citizen Satisfaction survey conducted in March, 2015. The Town of Riverview last completed this style of survey in 2010. Overall perceptions about life in Riverview remain strong. Ninety-nine per cent of residents believe the quality of life in Riverview is good or very good. The most frequent answer to the question, "Why has the quality of life improved since 2010?" was new or more businesses. The document will be posted to the town website following Council approval at the June 9 meeting.
Council made a motion to approve the following grant requests:
$10 to purchase a ticket to United Way AGM luncheon $50 donation to New Brunswick Adoption Foundation for its campaign "Everyone's Children" $40 to purchase 4 tickets to the MetroTones Pop Chorus charity concert $100 to support Aram Currie's participation in the Provincial elite basketball team $500 to support the Portage Atlantic Youth Centre and its fundraiser for the Lewis Fitness Centre Capital Campaign $500 donation to the Association of Municipal Administrators Conference
