September 9, 2013 - The One with the Online Registration

Summary of this week's Council meeting. 1. By-Laws 2. Rebecca Playground Tender 3. Designated Highway Priorities 4. FCRS Property Management 5. Online Registration This week we saw the third and final reading of the Municipal Development plan as well as the Zoning By-Law. There had been a request from residents to make a change to the Zoning By-Law with regard to parking of recreational vehicles. The dates were changed to May 1 - October 30. During this time period, residents are permitted to store recreational vehicles in your driveway (ex: RV). We also had the second and third readings to re-zone a property on Hillsborough rd to allow a small multiple unit dwelling to go up. There were also second and third readings on amendments to the subdivision and building by-laws. For the building by-law we adopted the National Building Code of Canada except for the barrier free design portion. We adopted the Barrier Free regulation from the community planning act. In the subdivision by-law we removed section 4. (5)(e). We also did the first and second readings on an amendment to the bylaw relating to traffic, parking and use of streets. Some changes were made to Schedule A (too long to post here). 2. We awarded the tender for Rebecca Playground to J.K Fraser & Son Ltd. In order to do so we had to delay the purchase of a passenger van for parks and recreation. 3. Designated Highways. This is a cost sharing project between the town and the provincial government. In this priority outline we identified streets that, should the town and province move forward on joint street repair, would be out priority. This does not mean that they are priority over other streets in the town to be fixed though. They include mill and overlay on Coverdale from Pine Glen to Gunningsville blvd, street improvement on Coverdale from Patricia (east) to Cudmore and street improvement on Coverdale from Cudmore to Patricia Dr (west). 4. We awarded a contract to Ground Floor Property Management to take over the management of the Chocolate River Station. In a previous report from the FCRS review committee (which I was a member of) we stipulated that we would not discuss the selling the build for at least one year. We also stipulated that we would look at out sourcing the management of the building. Things are going very well at the FCRS and the building has started to see some great success with tenants DS&Co. Weddings and Special Events and The Cocoa Room, La Spa Riverview and of course a staple business in Riverview Briggs Maples. 5. Well, the one we've all been waiting for....ONLINE REGISTRATION!!! Director of Parks and Recreation Gerry Cole announced that the software has been purchased and we will begin the process of setting up the online process. It will take sometime time to populate the database and do staff training with a trial run but Mr. Cole is confident it will happen late 2014! Don't forget about the Town's 40th Anniversary Celebrations on September 27th and the Coverdale Center at 7:00pm featuringJared Lutes and MJ Poitras, Community Spirit Awards, a presentation from the heritage committee and more!! If you've stuck it out all the way to the end of this message then I congratulate you and thank you for taking the time to stay updated with what's going on in your town. Any questions or comments, please send me a message! INFORMATION OVERLOAD!
