February 9, 2015 - Regular Council Meeting
Presentation by Coldest Night of the Year Council heard a presentation by Coldest Night of the Year organizer, Cathy Manuel. Cathy encouraged Council and Town staff to consider participating in this event that takes place on February 21. The event raises money for the hungry, homeless and hurting in 81 communities across Canada. Council took this as information. Presentation by Sustainability Committee Council heard an update from the Town of Riverview Sustainability Committee co-chairs, Adrienne O'Pray and Micha Fardy. They outlined the committee's recent work which includes the initiation of an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan. All residents of the Tri-Community, Town Staff and Council are encouraged to take part in the committee's online survey which closes Sunday, February 15. They also shared their plans for upcoming events, including focus groups and a Sustainability Symposium to take place in April. Heart Month Council has agreed to acknowledge February as Heart Month, in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Greater Moncton Local Immigration Partnership Council has agreed to the establishment of the Greater Moncton Local Immigration Partnership. This partnership between the Tri-Community will help to enhance and coordinate existing immigration related services and initiatives to help attract, aid and retain newcomers to the Greater Moncton area. Local Improvement Project Council has approved Phase 2 of the local improvement of Trites Road including a portion of Cherry Court. Mobile Food Vendor Policy Council approved the Mobile Food Vendor Policy. This policy is to ensure consistency when vendors are entering the Town and setting up their stands. Each vendor is required to go through an application process. Addition of Parks Services to New Public Works Building Council has approved the relocation of certain Parks and Recreation services located on Biggs Drive, to the new Public Works building upon its completion. Appointments Mayor Seamans appointed Rob Bateman, Shawn Dempsey and Gary Steeves, to the Planning Advisory Committee for a two year term. Mayor Seamans appointed Councillor Toner to the Codiac Regional Policing Authority. Operational Grants Council awarded $30,800 in Operational Grants to 23 various organizations throughout the Tri-Community.
