Council Highlights - February 23, 2015 Hello Riverview! Our last meeting was a lengthy one for sure but some really great things discussed. Happy reading!

1. Presentations (Ca-r-ma, Wellness Centre Feasibility Study and Codiac Transpo) 2. Department Reports 3. Grants

1. Presentations Council heard three presentations. The first was from a group called Ca-r-ma. They explained their mandate and what they do. We discussed what role they might be able to play, aiding with an issue on Warren Ave with feral cats. Some residents have expressed concern with amount of feral cats in the area and the work that car-r-ma does might be able to help. For more information, visit ca-r-ma.org.

The second presentation was on the feasibility study that town commissioned for the proposed wellness centre. The Riverview Town Council believes that it is now time to look at options for addressing recreation and wellness facility needs in the community. In preparation, Council directed the Wellness Centre Committee to conduct a feasibility study considering options for a new indoor facility that would meet current and future recreation needs. The reports presented for Council's consideration are available on our website and further information can be found in the link below. We encourage citizen feedback and will provide formal opportunities to engage the public on this topic. In the meantime, please send comments and questions to info@townofriverview.ca. To access the study and material Council was presented with, visit this link:http://www.townofriverview.ca/…/Community-Wellness-Centre.a…. We know that to properly execute a plan like this, it will take some time. There is some great information in this study and we would LOVE to hear your thoughts!

The third presentation was from Codiac Transpo. Both Council and Codiac Transpo recognize that the current routes are not ideal and Codiac has come back with some interesting proposals for route changes. No changes to the current system are set to take place just yet but Council will be reviewing the information to make a decision on what direction we can take and how we will go about the implementation process. We recognize that the east to west travel needs to improve. Enhancements to the bus system will, of course, require more funding. What do you think? Should the town invest more money into the transit service for Riverview?

2. Department Reports Here are some highlights from the department reports: Community Garden - The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Relations is looking for a Chairperson for the "Great Place to Grow" Community Garden Committee. Any member of the Riverview community is welcome to put their name forward. All those interested, or looking for more information, are encouraged to contact Parks and Recreation at 387-2024.

Spring/Summer Events & Activities Guide - The Spring/Summer Events & Activities Guide is provided to every residence in Riverview to inform citizens of community events, programs and festivals. The Parks and Recreation department is inviting groups and organizations looking to purchase an ad within this publication to contact the Parks and Recreation office at 387-2024 prior to the end of March.

Sustainability Symposium - The date for the Town of Riverview Sustainability Committee's sustainability symposium, entitled "Sustaina-palooza! - Small Town, Big Ideas" has been set for April 16-18. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.

3. Grants Report Council awarded the Girl Guides with a 40% rental subsidy for their use of the Coverdale Centre.
