Council Highlights – June 22, 2015
Good evening Riverview. Summer is here...I guess! Hope you have purchased a great summer umbrella! Here are some notes from our Committee of the Whole meeting from June 23. You can read previous Council Highlights on my website www.andrewjleblanc.com. Remember, motions passed in a C.O.W meeting are recommendations to be brought forward to the next Regular Council Meeting (July 13).
1.Department Reports
2.Budget Process Review
3.Fire Engine Sale
4.Trans Aqua Appointment
Special Council Meeting
1.Public Works Operation Centre Tender
2.Hawthorne Park Tender
1.Department reports
Council heard department reports from the staff. We heard everything from asset management plans to updates on Codiac Transpo looking at different styles of buses for the future to debt ratio and more. One big highlight is that SUNFEST is coming up so be sure not to miss out on any of the fun! I’ll be in the DUNK TANK on Canada Day once again at 2:20pm. Come at me brah!
2.Budget Process
Council reviewed the upcoming budget planning process for the fall. Council will meet to establish priorities for the staff to take away and build their budgets with. Public presentations will take place and we encourage anyone who is interested to come out and listen!
3.Sale of Engine 11
Our Engine 11 in the Fire Department soon will be replaced. Council heard a request from the Riverside-Albert Volunteer Fire Department to purchase the old Engine for $1.00. The engine is 20 years old but could still function as a backup engine for Riverside-Albert. We believe that it is in everyone’s best interest to support each other on initiatives like this, especially since we could not recuperate very much, we were to sell the engine, as its value is quite low. Council passed a motion to support Riverside-Albert and this motion will proceed to the Regular Council Meeting.
4.Trans Aqua Appointment
Mayor Ann Seamans appointed former Mayor Clarence Sweetland to a 2 year term on the Trans Aqua Board.
Special Council Meeting
1.Public Works Operation Centre Tender
Council awarded the tender for the new PW operations facility to Foulem Construction in the amount of $13,300,000 (plus HST). This amount is $200,000 under budget.
2.Hawthorne Park Tender
Council awards the tender for Phase 2 of Hawthorne Park to JK Fraser & Son Ltd in the amount of $155,000 (incl HST). The bid came in over budget so the scope of work will be changed to keep the project on budget.
Don’t forget to take part in Sunfest this week! This summer we will only have 1 Council meeting per month. As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to send me a message. Cheers!
